Service Engineer

We're not just looking for an already-qualified service engineer - we're looking for someone who's spent time troubleshooting lab or clean air equipment and wants to build a career around it.

We're recruiting on behalf of a specialist manufacturer of laboratory equipment who are growing fast - the service department has just smashed its annual budget by £100k, and we need to add another engineer to the team to keep up with demand.

You'd be joining a close-knit, specialist team where your technical expertise directly protects people and enables vital scientific and medical work, all while enjoying the autonomy of a field-based role, variety across different industries and site types, and real opportunities to develop deeper technical and product knowledge over time.

If you've ever been the person in your lab, hospital, or facilities team who others turn to when a safety cabinet, fume cupboard, isolator, or clean air equipment isn't behaving - even if "service engineer" has never been your job title - we want to hear from you

What you'll be doing:

  • Servicing, installing, and commissioning laboratory equipment and cleanrooms at customer sites across Northern England, with occasional cover for Scotland
  • Training customers on new equipment as you install it
  • Working to the latest British Standards, with full digital paperwork/reporting
  • Representing our brand face-to-face - you'll be the trusted expert customers rely on

What we'll give you:

  • Full training: one week at our factory, then shadowing an experienced engineer, then easing you in solo (1 job a day to start, building up to the usual 2 jobs a day)
  • Top-of-range kit provided: van, phone, laptop, and testing equipment
  • 25 days holiday (rising with service) plus bank holidays
  • Overtime paid at a flat rate, plus £50 overnight allowance and £350 for occasional weekend work
  • Health surveillance testing

What you'll need:

  • Hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, or being responsible for lab/clean air equipment (e.g. safety cabinets, fume cupboards, isolators, cleanrooms) - this could be from a lab technician, facilities, or biomedical science background, not just a service engineering one
  • Practical experience with biological safety cabinets or lab equipment
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly (with occasional overnight stays)
  • Ability to obtain CSCS card, and DBS/security clearance where required

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys autonomy, customer contact, and variety, working with cutting-edge lab and clean-air technology across the UK.
